Knight of Saccharine: Down There @ Queen's U:

Hi there everyone.

I’m a stage manager for Down There, at Queen’s University. We’re kind of similar to the Vagina Monologues, except we aim to be more inclusive, and most of our monologues are written by people in the Queen’s/Kingston community. Here’s a bit of a mission statement.

We’re a critical feminist anti-oppressive project that recognizes, reflects, celebrates and supports the complex identities people have. We want to share stories - stories that need to be heard, but are sadly often defined by others and silenced. We know that these stories are serious, funny, beautiful, embarrassing, painful, terrifying, empowering… or sometimes all of this, all at once.

We need to sell 1000 tickets. Our first show is this Thursday. If you’re able, I really suggest you buy a ticket. The cast and crew are so dedicated, and it’d be really appreciated.
Did I mention all of what we make goes to the Dawn House, Interval House, and Sexual Assault Centre in Kingston?

This is a blog for anyone on tumblr/into fandoms who goes to Queen’s University (or lives in the general Kingston area)

We will have meet-ups and such, and it will be a groovy way to meet other tumblr people in the area :)

NEWTS stands for New Exchange (Woo-hoo) Transfer Students. (The Woo-Hoo is there so the students aren’t called NETS).

All my students (international and otherwise) were adorable and so friendly.

Quick run down of highlights:

Intense paint party in which all the newts and geckos threw around tricolour paint at each other and ended up accidentally painting most of Victoria Park.

One of my newts nervously pulling me aside and asking if it was okay for him to like an older woman in this country because it wasn’t back home and then looking so relieved when I said yes.

So much sexy orange.

HUGE CAPTURE THE FLAG.

All of us dressing up and looking sharp and having a classy 3-meal dinner.

Really deep conversations with two women from France.

Being able to join the TOKYO POLICE CLUB CONCERT.

And so much more.
I just slept until 2PM to even try to catch up on sleep from this intense week, but eh. So worth it.

Definitely worth checking out as an alternative to becoming a Gael!
